Stabilizing Basics For Sewing And Embroidery Machine

The fabric which you embroider on must be stabilized in order to avoid folds and other difficulties during the sewing process.

The stabilizing method depends on the type of the embroidery sewing machine and density level of the embroidery design.  For example, stretch fabrics or large embroidery designs require a higher level of stabilizing.

Usually, the stabilizers are added above or underneath the fabric.  There are different types of stabilizers.  Some stabilizers are torn off when sewing is finished.  There is special nylon which dissolves in water or disappears by heat.  Some stabilizers stick to the fabric.  There are yet other types of special net fabrics for stabilizing.  In some cases, it is necessary to combine more than one method.

Polyester, rayon, and metal threads are among some of the best threads used for embroidery.  Polyester is known as a stable thread which maintains its original color and is fairly strong.  It is highly recommended that you use 40W thread for the upper thread and 60W or 90W for the lower bobbin.
